Christmas Break

Today we did not have any training as there was a very heavy snow on the ground when we woke up. (I'll post photos later). So basically we stayed indoors and cleaned weapons, and gear. I treated myself and ordered in Chinese instead of eating army food. I must say it tasted very good and was satisfactally filling!
Last week we spent our time in a training area called the FOB for forward operating base. It was, needless to say since this is December, cold, cold and more cold. We received good training and when we came out of the field were informed that we received a "go" on our validation.
The snow brings out the homesickness as I think of back home and our little ridge top farm. Since we have moved there, we have had a white Christmas every year, which I think is just awesome.
Speaking of Christmas, we will have a Christmas pass to visit our families one more time. They guys are acting like my students do, all giddy and just about ready to pop. It will be great to be home, if just for a short time.
One of the things about being in the field is you seem to be cut off from the world. We come out and the first thing we see is the attack in Mosoul and other places. For a very good read from someone who was there, go to this link:

The cold weather has brought with it the usual colds and I have been one of them. Even had to go to the TMC for treatement. But as our bodies get use to the conditions and training, people seem to be getting better.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. May your new year be a good year.
